The Local Group’s mass: probably no more than the sum of its parts

چکیده
The total mass of the Local Group (LG) and masses its primary constituents, Milky Way M31, are important anchors for several cosmological questions. In recent years, independent measurements have consistently yielded halo close to $10^{12} \mathrm{M_\odot}$ MW, $1-2 \times 10^{12} while estimates derived from pair's kinematics via `timing argument' a combined around $5 \mathrm{M_\odot}$. Here, we analyse extremely large Uchuu simulation constrain two most massive members. First, demonstrate importance selecting LG analogues whose dominated by mutual interactions similar extent as LG. Adopting observed separation radial velocity, obtain weighted posterior $75_{-40}^{+65}$ kms$^{-1}$ uncertain transverse velocity. Via Gaussian process regression, infer $3.2^{+1.2}_{-0.9} \mathrm{M_\odot}$, significantly below timing argument prediction. Importantly, show that remaining uncertainty is not rooted in analysis or observational errors, but irreducible scatter kinematics-mass relation. We further find less $0.9_{-0.3}^{+0.6} more $2.3_{-0.9}^{+1.0} consistent with MW respectively. Incorporating an additional prior allows us all determine very likely be lower object two.

متن کاملThe sialome--far more than the sum of its parts.
The glycome is defined as the glycan repertoire of cells, tissues, and organisms, as found under specified conditions. The vastly diverse glycome is generated by a nontemplate driven biosynthesis, which is indirectly encoded in the genome, and very dynamic. Due to this overwhelming diversity, glycomic analysis must be approached at different hierarchical levels of complexity. In this review fiv...
متن کاملThe metabolic syndrome: more than the sum of its parts?
The prevalence of obesity has risen dramatically in the United States.1 This has led to a marked increase in the metabolic syndrome (MetSyn), a clustering of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk factors characterized by visceral adiposity, insulin resistance, low HDL cholesterol (HDL-C), and a systemic proinflammatory state.2 In the United States, the MetSyn affects roughly 25% of adults...
متن کاملIntegration of omics: more than the sum of its parts.
Genome scale data on biological systems has increasingly become available by sequencing of DNA and RNA, and by mass spectrometric quantification of proteins and metabolites. The cellular components from which these -omics regimes are derived act as one integrated system in vivo; thus, there is a natural instinct to integrate -omics data types. Statistical analyses, the use of previous knowledge...
متن کاملThe perception of a familiar face is no more than the sum of its parts.
Why do faces become easier to recognize with repeated exposure? Previous research has suggested that familiarity may induce a qualitative shift in visual processing from an independent analysis of individual facial features to analysis that includes information about the relationships among features (Farah, Wilson, Drain, & Tanaka Psychological Review, 105, 482-498, 1998; Maurer, Grand, & Mondl...
